Welcome to Becoming
by Kelly B. Pittman
In Becoming, I write about faith, art and creativity, healing, beauty, nature, and the intersection of all of them. Through Becoming, I offer online workshops and creative prompts and opportunities to engage in creative community.
While on this journey together, you’ll likely see some of the following themes in what I share, create, and believe in:
We HEAL in creative community and I love inviting others to engage in creative prompts and activities that have been helpful and healing for me.
We can have a solid faith and STILL struggle (let’s stop beating ourselves up over being human)
We can hold two opposing truths at once. We do it all the time. For me, it’s often pain and suffering AND joy and peace
Beauty is my protest; it’s my sustaining grace. Beauty comes from God and points to God. Beauty and gratitude are my weapons of choice.
If the body keeps the score, our art doesn’t have to. I believe that expressive, intuitive creativity is a somatic release that helps tremendously with the trauma we store in our bodies.
“My dear friends, we are now God’s children, but it is not yet clear what we shall become. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he really is.”
- 1 John 3:2, Good News Translation
About Kelly Pittman
I am a Christian, wife to my best friend, and mother of three + our rescue dog, Louis Armstrong. I’m also a multidisciplinary artist, published poet, writer, master naturalist/environmental educator, youth baseball coach, workshop facilitator, amateur photographer, space maker, beauty gatherer, and art ministry leader living in Wake Forest, NC.
Additionally, I’m a chronic note-taker and journaler AND chronically ill with multiple health challenges. I’m healing from trauma AND living in it with a challenging family situation. I’m a moody poet AND singing karaoke as often as I possibly can.

My hopes with Becoming
I realized I needed a place to engage in authentic community after Instagram repeatedly let me down. I also needed a repository for my thoughts, poems, and writings as I began writing prolifically to help me through some of the hardest seasons in my life. I needed a place that felt safe, I place I could feel seen and nurtured and where I could see others, make space for their stories, and nurture them. That’s what I hope Becoming will be - for me and you.
I am (re)writing this ‘About’ page a good year after I began this Substack because it’s taken me that long to figure out how I’d like to use it. And hey, things may still change, but for now, the subscription plans looks like this:
