This is SO beautiful, Kelly! What a fabulous, inspirational deep-dive into all that it means to 'journal' (just the term itself can feel intimidating, let alone starting a fresh one - I love that you get into this, with such wonderful ideas!).You've 100% made me want to rethink how I approach my journal keeping - I have a scrappy daily planner, and one to accompany lectio divina/quiet time thoughts that come to me and verses I want to remember but it's all over the place! Also, within the last year, I came across a set of tiny 1960s/1970s diaries which my mother kept, and that would fall into the "daily calendar/diary" camp. They contained the barest and most simple details , e.g. "had coffee with Mary/took Jenny shopping for school shoes" or whatever, but oh, to see her young handwriting! And those very details somehow just captured a time, and the narrative arc of a year, and her life then. We came across them clearing out my parents' home when they moved into residential care and they are a treasure to me. So much more to say, but I LOVED this, Kelly - thank you.
Oh this makes me want to buy 5 new journals! I keep so many notes on my phone but I'd love to get into the habit of writing it down!
PS: that SKETCH of your son with Louis Armstrong!! No words. 💖🥹
