My darling Naomi,
There wouldn’t be rainbows without any rain
There wouldn’t be healing without any pain.
Remember the hummingbird through this unknown plight,
and how scientists are baffled by its remarkable flight.
In all things, God is working in you
So trust in Him, in all you do.
That tiny bird made his presence in the middle of our tears
to bring hope, joy and a reminder that God is here.
So times when you are sad or scared or lonely
trust in him and his will for you only.
Though the hummingbird is considered a miracle to some
we know he was sent to affirm you are the chosen one.
All of this one day will be shared as your story
and God will make it beautiful and you’ll give him the glory.
It may be hard to see now but this is important work the Lord has for you
and there are days when you’ll feel you can barely get through;
But remember, my beloved pleasant1 one, to stay strong for God’s will
because God will fight for you; you only need be still.
When facing your mountains, and pain, and all of these hard things,
remember your verse - He will strengthen you and help you soar on Eagle’s wings2!
There wouldn’t be rainbows without any rain;
God wouldn’t have chosen you if he didn’t know you would reign.
Note: I wrote this poem for Naomi on 7/14/2019. In the beginning of 2019, our family chose a ‘word of the year’ and Naomi, during her own quiet time with the Lord, chose the word ‘SOAR’. Isaiah 40:31 then became her verse for the year. In June that year, she attended a camp where Isaiah 40:31 was the main scripture for the theme of the camp that week. A month after that, upon arriving at a children’s residential facility and as we were all very nervous about this experience, we walked into their main building where families were greeted, and they had a scripture engraved on stone; it was Isaiah 40:31. We saw this as affirmation that the Lord was with us and that we were exactly where we were supposed to be. I wrote this poem for her right before we left her at the facility. It was very emotional for all of us.
The name Naomi means ‘pleasant one’, ‘above all’, and ‘beauty’
“But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” - Isaiah 40:31
